About Me

Hi! My name is Russell Root, and I am a video producer for the news and politics website Salon.com. I film and edit interviews with a wide variety of guests, and I write and produce daily short videos for their TikTok and Instagram pages. These videos have racked up millions of likes, and have helped spread Salon’s content to new corners of the Internet.

I graduated from Wesleyan University in 2022 with a Bachelor’s degree in Film and French. During my time at Wesleyan, I worked on a variety of film projects, including writing, directing, and editing an award-winning short film in my senior year.

In addition to my love for film, I have also found other ways to express my creativity. At Wesleyan, I wrote and produced two radio programs, including the show A Week in the Life, which played and discussed the history of the Beatles, a week at a time.

I also wrote and produced an album of original songs in the summer of 2021, that is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming services. My second album, Sophomoric, came out on November 18, 2022, and is also available to stream anywhere!

From 1 to 3 - A Short Film

I wrote, directed, and edited this short film over the course of my senior year at Wesleyan, as my thesis project for the film department. The film earned honors from the department, and received the NNK Award for Best Thesis Film Screenplay. Watch it below.

My Music

In October 2021, I released my first album of 10 original songs, titled Melancholic Figurine. My second album, Sophomoric, was released on November 18, preceded by the singles “Follow You” and “Songs about the Rain".”

You can listen to all of my music below.

Music Videos

To accompany the release of my upcoming album, Sophomoric, I am releasing multiple music videos. Watch all three of those music videos below.
